Diamond Core Drill Bits
Diamond core drill bits are used in the construction industry for drilling through concrete walls, brick, block, granite, marble, glass, stone and other masonry materials. They are long steel hollow tubes with a crown of diamond segments welded onto the tip. To avoid the diamond bit from getting stuck in the hole, the diamond segments are slightly wider than the rest of the bit to allow for a lateral tolerance while drilling.
Some core bits can be used with smaller portable drills but the bigger industrial bits use much larger drills which are typically mounted to the floor for added stability. Some core bits are designed to have extension tubes added for deeper drilling as well.
One of the advantages about diamond core bits is that they require much less power than normal bits which cover the whole surface area. This also allows for drilling a larger hole without large expensive equipment.
Whether you are doing building construction or just fitting up your home, core bits can come in handy for many different uses. Wet or dry core bits are usually used with either a handheld drill or with core drilling machines at low speeds. On most occasions diamond drill bits can be used with or without water. The cutting edge of the core bit consists of diamonds fixed onto metal segments supported by a steel shell. Barrel vents on the sides of the bit allow the scrapings of the material you are cutting to be easily discarded.
Diamond core bits have many purposes and come in a multitude of sizes, types and uses. Dry diamond core bits are usually laser welded and are used to cut materials such as concrete, asphalt, brick and block. If you find that you need to cut through something a bit heavier than a granite or marble core bit will be what you want. If you find yourself doing a bit of light work, there are many stone and tile core bits that will make your job much easier. There are even diamond core bits delicate enough to use on materials such as glass and ceramics.
With core bits you will want to make sure that you have the right
type of bit in order to get your job done fast and cost effective. The softer the material the
harder you will want your diamond core bit to be. The harder bond will hold the diamonds in place
letting the diamonds last for their full duration. When working with harder material you will want
a softer bond that wears down faster allowing new diamonds to be uncovered more frequently.
This will ensure that your bit continues to drill quickly and will not over heat or destroy your product.
