Diamond Grinding Cup Wheels

Diamond cup wheels are used for grinding, smoothing, beveling and polishing of masonry materials. There's a variety of cup wheels used for grinding concrete, brick, block, marble, granite and stone. Some grinding cups are simply used for fast removal of paints, glue and epoxies while others can be used for other heavy duty industrial grinding applications.

Depending on the segment style they can vary from single row grinding cups for fast aggressive grinding, double row grinding cups for smoother grinding with a finer finish and turbo grinding cups for semi-fine polishing.

The bond and grit size can vary depending on the material and the level of smoothing or polishing that needs to be done. If a fine polish is required than usually polishing pads can be used instead. Grinding wheels and grinding cup wheels come in a multitude of sizes and shapes for different purposes. They are handy for DIY jobs which require shaping, sculpting, polishing or molding concrete, glass, marble, granite, field stones, block, metal, asphalt and many other masonry materials. Even in home improvement projects you can use them for cleaning up wood floors, removing paint and wall paper which are only a few of the things you can use a grinding cup for home repair and renovations. Grinding cups are so diverse that you can even find accessories to help vacuum up the dust and debris left behind from your work project.

Named after their looks, grinding cups usually consist of a cup like body. You can also find cups in cylinder, wheel, or flat disk form depending on what you need the cup to do. The core supports hard metal segments fixed with diamonds of different shapes and sizes depending on the job you need it to do. For the heavier jobs like grinding concrete and other hard materials, the cup wheel is usually used with concrete angle grinders. The most common ways of fixing the diamonds into the segments is through either cold pressing or hot pressing.

Just like most diamond tools, the bond should match the material you are cutting. This may mean that you will have to use more than one type of cup for one job. The harder the material that is being ground, the softer the bond you will want. The softer the material, the harder the bond should be. If the material you are cutting is dense like stone, you will find that the diamonds on your grinding cup will be much bigger and harder for aggressive grinding applications.

If you are using the cup to remove thinner material like surface coatings you will want a harder bond. Although the diamonds may not need to be as hard, there will be more diamonds there to help exactness and detail. Because you are not grinding such rough material your diamonds will have a longer life span. Once the main grinding is done and depending on what you are doing, all you will need is a diamond polishing pad matching the diamond grit you need to put the finishing touches on your job.
